1,614,164 passengers were carried by Marconi Express from 1 January to 30 November 2023: an increase of over 20% compared to 2022, when there were 1,340,114 passengers in the same period. In the first 11 months of 2023, the daily average number of passengers was 4,847, over 800 more than the 4,024 passengers per day in 2022. A result in line with the growth of Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, which had a total of 9,299,285 passengers from January to November, up 17.6% on the same period in 2022 and 7.0% on the same period in 2019.
In detail, in January 2023 Marconi Express had 104,333 passengers, in February 99,866, in March 125,453, in April 158,048, in May 153,000. In June there was growth to 165,680 users, with the peak of 186,938 passengers reached in July, representing the best monthly figure since the service was launched. In August there were 172,861 passengers, in September 169,111. At the end of the summer period, 158,547 people used Marconi Express in October, and 120,327 in November.
The journeys from the airport to Bologna Central Station and vice versa by Marconi Express saved about 825.2 tonnes of CO2 in the first 11 months of 2023: the calculation is the result of multiplying the number of passengers transported by a coefficient that takes into account the average emissions of a car, the average journey to Bologna airport and the share of users who would have travelled by their own means of transport as an alternative to Marconi Express. In the same period, the 1,904 photovoltaic panels installed along the route produced more than 408 MWh, providing about 35% of the energy demand.
